beginning college again after christmas holidays…sashiko project

We were given a new brief just before the christmas holidays which concentrates on japanese sashiko techniques from the 18th century through to present.
The aim of this project is to explore the techniques and experiment with them so that we can incorporate it into our own design work, creating a spring/summer collection of the same type of garments, for example, 10 coats or 10 dresses.
So far, i am enjoying this project and like investigating the different textile techniques that the japanese used to make different garments like kimonos, waistcoats ad fire fighting jackets. the spiritual protection that some of the symbols represent on the garments make it more interesting.
