the first project – creating for a customer profile

this project consisted of creating a collection of evening wear and day/work wear for a specific customer profile..i chose frances..a high profile cosmetic surgeon. we had to take inspiration for this collection from a non- trend based idea.. i chose the victorian era, period costume. i enjoyed this project because we had to look at alot of primary sources to gain inspiration. the project was very different to what i have done before because we could not use current trends which meant no magazine/internet images in our sketchbooks, instead we made a trend board and referred to that when we needed to make our looks contemporary. below i have pasted some images of part of the technical side of the project..creating samples. here is a pagoda sleeve i created..these were very popular on costume during the victorian period.

working with the manequin/moulage

when we first had a lesson on how to do moulage on a mannequin in order to get patterns to create the clothes, we learnt where to positon the mannequin tape, how to take the darts out/ put them in, the best way to get a good fit etc

so far on the mannequin we have created the following using moulage…a straight skirt, a bodice with sleeve, a fitted bodice in a variety of different styles(different seams etc).

below i have pasted pictures of the moulage process in action.

techniques learnt on photoshop

below i have pasted some screen captures of what i have learnt on photoshop.. these techniques were very useful when it comes to creating the boards i have done for my projets.

End of jan/feb.

the finish of the japanese sashiko project was successful i created a sketchbook full of samples, design ideas and exploration, i also created ten design developments in which i formed new illustrations – 3 different poses, i was very proud of these as i had changed my illustrative style quite a bit and learnt how to elongate my drawing so that the figures look more “fashiony” (very long legs etc). the rest of the project consisted of a storyboard representing the theme of the project and the style of my designs, and three final design/illustration boards which also carried the same theme (like elements of the background etc). below are the images off my memory stick of a board in process.
